Ma`rifat Kalami

The domain of religion has long been a significant and noteworthy subject in the thought of Islamic, non-Islamic theologians, and philosophers of religion. In the contemporary period, this topic has been extensively discussed under titles such as "human need for religion," "human expectations of religion," "the scope of sacred law (sharīʿa)," and "the domain of religion." The central issue in the discussion of the domain of religion is the precise definition of religion and the identification of its pillars and components, as well as determining the extent of religion's influence and impact in various spheres of individual and social human life. This article, focusing on explaining Āyatullāh Miṣbāḥ Yazdī's view and comparing it with that of Āyatullāh Jawādī Āmulī, examines the proposition that, contrary to common perception, these two perspectives are not fundamentally and substantially different; indeed, they are very close to one another. Based on the authors' analysis, a comprehensive and integrated approach to Āyatullāh Jawādī Āmulī's theories leads to a significant resolution of the initial discrepancies observed between the two views, ultimately bringing them into considerable convergence. The research method of this article is descriptive-analytical and comparative, evaluating the stated claim through an examination of relevant sources and texts.
