Abstract:
There are statements from the infallible Imams (peace be upon them) in the form of narrations and supplications in which the expression “I know God through God” has been used. Islamic scholars have expressed numerous interpretations about the aforementioned expression. Among them, Allama Misbah Yazdi has presented a different interpretation that is most consistent with the interpretation of the narration. Due to the existence of different interpretations by Islamic scholars and the application of this expression, as well as the importance of theological discussion, the present study has used an explanatory, analytical, and library method with the aim of explaining and clarifying Allama Misbah’s view and proving his intended interpretation of this expression. Since the narration has application, this study has addressed and examined the semantic possibilities of the narration with an innovative design and has reached the conclusion that the phrase in question includes two possibilities of knowing God by reference and attributes. Each of these possibilities also has three types, and Allama Misbah’s interpretation is compatible and consistent with the third of the two semantic possibilities of the narration.
