Abstract:
Man’s "free will" is one of the most challenging and wide-ranging issues in the history of human thought. So far, based on different intellectual principles, various solutions have been proposed in this regard. Man’s "free will" has also been considered by Ibn Abi- Jumhur Ahsa'i. What distinguishes his point of view from that of others and makes it noteworthy is his unique attempt at the approximation of the theories of philosophers, mystics and theologians in this field in the book "Mojli". This paper has tried to examine the answer offered by Ahsa'i to the question of human free will and his attempt to resolve the existing conflicts between different ideas. The findings show that, in accordance with his illumination approach, Ahsa'i has provided a special interpretation of the theory of "intermediate position" and has argued that, based on the acceptance of the threefold unity of "sharīʿa, mystical path, and truth"; the disagreements over the issue of free will are reconcilable and non-contradictory.
